Calvert
Sails, founded in 1976, had been a member of the Halsey Lidgard Sailmakers
in 2004. For
various reasons, Dave Calvert and Operations manager, Ric Arra, have chosen
to split from the UK/Halsey group, going back to an independent loft once
again. The design and sales offices of Calvert Sails has moved to St. Petersburg Florida. This offices will be located in the large, modern sailmaking facility, Sail Technologies....more "Calvert Sails posts best race finishes of the 2007 Summer season.....more

Happy Customer Quotes "Getting a new sail in the middle of a Lake Michigan winter is bitter sweet. As I unpacked the new Calvert load path spectra jib with carbon and kevlar tapes for my F-31 onto the basement floor, artwork unfolded in front of me. The tape lamination is perfect. The construction lay-up appears superior and very skillfully done. In addition to the great soft components, the hardware is great; I was not expecting to see Wichard branded hanks and the four full battens came from Bete-Flemming. Dave Calverts association with Tom Barry looks like a homerun. Sadly, I have to wait until spring before I can hoist this beauty." Jim and Jo Kouracos
Re: Pentex Sails on F-boat. Good or bad idea? "Flying Circus Has a Pentex full batten main from Calvert. So far with the local fleet last year I was very consistent in finishing ( 4-5th) the main is a 2004 and trims well. I got caught out in a 35+ knot blow after one evening race took a few minutes to get the boat under control and the main down. To my surprise the next day there was no sign of damage. Last race of the season Flying Circus had a new personal best speed wise of 26 knots close reaching the main looked great we were able to catch most of the lead mine fleet (60+ boats) over the next 5-7 miles. The Main is getting on to 4 years old and while I can not attest to how it was sailed before my purchasing this boat it has held up well during this last season and expect it to do well for at least another couple of seasons. Racing we reef around 25knts true, cruising I usually put a reef in at 20knts true to keep peace with the admiral. I had to purchase new head sails when I bought the boat and had a good discussion with Dave Calvert on materials and what I wanted out of the design we arrived at Pentex for the Jib and Screecher as a good fit for my budget. My suggestion, give Dave a call and chat with him, during my conversations I did not get the impression that he was trying to sell me something, more toward fitting the right material to the application and budget. have dealt with many sail makers before...... lets just sail some are good.... talk to the one you feel comfortable with.
